harleigh and the blue bicycle.

"When I say I want to photograph someone, what it really means is that I'd like to know them. Anyone I know I photograph." - Annie Leibovitz

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of photographing my dear friend Dawn's daughter, Harleigh. We got to hang out for about 3 hours — shooting and giggling through 5 outfit changes (pulling out dresses from the "dress-up trunk" in the attic), and even the pumping up of a tire on a vintage bicycle!

One of greatest things about Harleigh is that she was open to trying anything, even if she knew if felt goofy, and be totally comfortable with me peering back through the lens of the camera. Grace, beauty, style, confidence, drama, irreverence, pure joy. And that's just the beginning of what we captured.

The last series we shot of Harleigh on the blue bicycle (to me) shows a girl who is ready to take-off, ready to soak up all that life has to offer, ready to laugh her way through all the stumbly, difficult beginnings that one must prepare themselves for when the time comes to leave the nest.

What a great place to be.

Thank you, from both us Gahan Girls. You captured Harleigh looking beautiful, both inside and out.

The shots on the bicycle are fantastic! Harleigh has grown into a beautiful young woman. And....you, my daughter, have some talent! Well done....

I particularly like the shot of her in the doorway in that long dress...the way the fabric drapes is just perfect, as is the light...and the first of the blue bicycle shots. Pairing that ruffly blue dress with the vintage-looking bicycle, flowers, and bare feet was a great choice.
